When the stripers and
bluefish come into the coastal Maine rivers, the
opportunity to catch many school sized (3-10) pound fish
exists, either with bait, artificial lures or on your
favorite fly rod. Catching one of these fish is great
fun! Stripers up to 40 pounds are caught every year in
these world renowned waters.
Catching stripers or
bluefish on a fly rod is one of the most thrilling
experiences that you will ever have, as these fish are
aggressive and great fighters! With the sudden surge of
the rod as you've hooked up, whether casting poppers for
fantastic surface action, or fishing clousers or
deceivers, or using the guides secret fly for sub-surface
action, this will be one of the most memorable
experiences of your stay in Maine!
You don't have to be a
fly fisherman to catch these great fish as bait and
artificial lures are productive fishing as well. (At
times of the year bait and artificials are more
productive than fly fishing).
When the schools of
mackerel enter the coastal harbors, they bring out man
and bird alike, to catch the aggressive little fish. What
a way to introduce your son or daughter to fishing, with
a morning of fast paced mackerel fishing. As the catch is
usually large and great eating, also great fun to catch
on light tackle.
